Philippine Presidential Award
Filipino-American Medical Incorporated (FAMI) is an organization that provides medical services to indigent populations in Asia. In December 2006, Niles D. Perlas CRNA, Nurse Anesthetist and Founder and Chair of FAMI, received the prestigious Philippine Presidential Award in recognition of FAMI’s humanitarian medical missions for the past several years.
FAMI acknowledges the special contribution and support of Hospital for Special Surgery’s Anesthesiology Department. HSS anesthesiologists, through their humanitarianinternational volunteerism, have provided their anesthesia knowledge and
skills for the successful surgeries during the missions. Over a thousand successful surgeries for the indigent population have been performed during FAMI’s past missions. HSS Medical Mission volunteers have included the following staff members: Dr. JamesBeckman, Dr. Chris Edmonds, Dr. Michael Ho, Dr. Andrew Lee, Dr. David Lee, and Dr. Joseph Oxendine, Dr. Thomas Quinn and Dr. Tyler Phillips.
FAMI also thanks its other volunteers including members of the HSS Nursing and Physician Assistants Staff.
